The storms are gone and people are enjoying a much better day today on the island, whether it's in the water or on a horse. But beach accesses 5 and 6 on the northern end of the island were off limits yesterday, in fear of the high tides brought by the tropical depression.
Constable units and park officials patrolled the beaches to ensure no one violated the order. Thankfully, officials say everyone obeyed and stayed away, that is, until today, when the beaches re-opened this morning.
Dale Frick and his family made the trip from Magnolia, Texas last night. They planned to get in yesterday morning but stayed home until it was safe to come down. But even though it took them a little longer to have some fun in the sun, he says it's all worth it because the storm is gone and the skies are starting clear up.
But even with a better day like today, beachgoers need to be extra careful in the water as the surf is still very rough. So if you want to make a trip to SPI, now's the time to do it, since all the storms are gone, but again, be extra careful in that water.
