South Padre Island, Spared Once Again

Friday, July 9, 2010 - 9:00am

South Padre Island may have a guardian angel watching over it this hurricane season as its dodged two tropical disturbances in just two weeks.

Just last week, we dealt with Hurricane Alex and today, a second tropical depression made landfall near the Island. Although this depression wasn't expected to turn into a tropical storm, island officials took no chances. We did experience strong wind gusts and some rain as the system moved in but nothing too drastic.

Island officials expected this depression to bring lots of rain, but as the system moved in, all we experienced was light rain and windy conditions.
