Two local elementary schools went under lockdown on Thursday after police were called about separate incidents occurring around the schools. Evangelina Garza Elementary was on lockdown for part of the morning after shots were heard nearby the school. Hidalgo county deputies went out to the area of Doffing road and Mile 7 to investigate the situation and found nothing.

In Brownsville, Garden Park Elementary was placed under lockdown after an individual was escorted into the Principal's office and then escorted off the school campus. School officials then called B.I.S.D. police, local police and Border Patrol about the incident and a search began for the suspect. The school is located just feet from the border fence and authorities believe the suspect could have been an undocumented immigrant.
