With the oil slick growing and traveling closer to land in the Gulf of Mexico, local shrimpers are keeping a close eye of the situation, Julio Olivo spoke to a shrimp boat owner and brings us this story.

For Valley shrimpers, this is a low time of the season, that's when maintenance is performed on most of the fleets, to get ready for shrimp season to open. That date is July 15th, but shrimp boat owner, Carlton Reyes is keeping a close eye on the Gulf of Mexico, but he's not looking at the shrimp, he's looking at the oil. Louisiana is one of the largest producers of shrimp in the country followed by Texas, so the price of shrimp could go up.
