Friday, July 2, 2010 - 9:25am

The halls of Porter high school were filled with people 24 hours ago and on Thursday it was nearly empty as Hurricane Alex shifted south into Mexico.

More than 250 people took refuge at the school after being informed that Hurricane Alex was heading to Brownsville. Organizers were prepared for the worst, but luckily the storm shifted further south into Mexico. Despite the uneventful evening at the school, officials say it was a good idea for people to seek refuge.
