State Representative Tara Rios went before a federal judge on Monday to get permission to practice dentistry on Medicaid patients and would consider the request and issuing a ruling on Tuesday.

A federal grand jury indicted Rio's, a dentist, last month on charges of stemming from an alleged healthcare fraud scheme with several other dentists. She has been released on the condition that she and the other co-defendants be barred from treating Medicaid and Medicare patients. The charges stem from an investigation into the dentists receiving kickbacks in turn for referring patients to surgeon Gary Morgan Schwarz.
