"We have the truck toys, have Barbie, we have different variety of toys."

Sara Juarez is one of several inmates at the Cameron County jail taking part in wrapping Christmas gifts. Juarez has three young children of her own. The gift her and the other inmates are wrapping will go to around 400-500 homes in Cameron County.

"It brings joy, really because right now I am not with my kids but at least I will help children of the Valley."

The sheriff's department has been doing the inmate's wrapping gifts since 1999.

"It keeps them busy at the same time its something constructive, something good for everybody, and they want to bring some joy and happiness."

Around 1,000 gifts were collected from people dropping them off at donation boxes at Walmart. Tuesday the sheriff, deputies, and Santa Claus will hit the streets of Cameron County.

"It gives a lot of pleasure and the officers, they enjoy giving the toys and some of the goodies in the rural areas."

The children and families will also receive a bag full of food that includes chicken, corn, and bread.
