Immigrants Continue to Attempt Crossing the River

Friday, August 6, 2010 - 8:33am

The latest rescue call came early Thursday morning, when Border Patrol agents went out to the levee near Pepe's on the River, after a report of a person stranded and in distress in the raging waters.  Border Patrol Supervisor Rosalinda Huey stated that the call was a false alarm and that when the agents arrived at the location they interviewed a man by the river. The man stated that he was retrieving a floating cooler and that he was not crossing into the country.

Agents have responded to rescue calls from immigrants attempting to cross the river in the last couple of days.  In one rescue attempt agents risked their own lives to save two women with one of them being pregnant. All made it safely back to land, but unfortunately immigrants continue to attempt to cross the Rio Grande river risking their lives and those who are protecting our borders.
