Hidalgo Sheriff's Department holds pursuit workshop for officers.

The Hidalgo county sheriff's department took a proactive approach in car pursuits after seeing an increase of those numbers of incidents growing in the Valley.

Agencies from across the Valley are experiencing many police chases invovling drug and human smuggling. County offiicials started a policy workshop, that provides guidance for the officer, when a chase begins and until it ends. Studies have shown that when an officer becomes engaged in chases his heart rate increases, breathing speeds up and may get hyper-vigilant which decreases his motor skills.
