A deputy with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department has been fired after getting arrested for driving under the influence. Pharr police arrested Mauricio Ramos outside a fast food restaurant last weekend after he nearly caused an accident in the parking lot. Police say Ramos was parked by a fence and appeared to be asleep behind the wheel. Ramos was re-hired by Sheriff Lupe Treviño in 2005 after the former sheriff fired Ramos in 1999 for another DWI charge. Sheriff Treviño re-hired Ramos under the condition that another arrest would result in his termination.
