Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen became the first hospital in the state of Texas to perform a cancer procedure with a new cutting edge technology called Nano Knife, reporter Julio Olivo spoke to the doctor who performed the procedure and explains what it's all about.
Cancer patients can now receive a new treatment at the hospital, which kills cancer cells with electricity while not harming any healthy tissue in it's surrounding, using a Nano Knife. On March 30th, the first Nano Knife cancer procedure in the state of Texas was performed on a 68 year-old patient. The patient was only the fourth lung cancer patient in the U.S. to have the procedure done.
The new technology allows physicians to treat lesions that are not well treated by other methods. Valley Baptist was able to bring the new technology to South Texas through the generosity of the Valley Baptist Auxiliary Volunteers.
