This weekend's fundraiser is to remember Amanda Franklin, who battled for more than two months in a San Antonio hospital, after sustaining significant injuries when the plane she and her husband, Kyle Franklin, were on, lost power, caught fire and crashed back in march during Air Fiesta in Brownsville.

"She fought it for 76 days and she was a real trooper but unfortunately her injuries were so severe that her body just couldn't keep up with it."

David Hughston, Chairman for Air Fiesta, organized this Saturday’s event to help the Franklin family with their financial difficulties. He says the accident has left the family with high medical bills and Kyle hasn't worked since, so it has been a struggle.

"We know that the franklins have untold number of expenses, thousands, hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses, besides the medical expenses they have in San Antonio."

Kyle had been by his wife's side since he got out of the hospital. He suffered burns to his arms and hands but was discharged from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio in late March.

The weekend's fundraiser will be held at the CAF hanger facility at the Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport. The fundraiser will feature three live bands, a silent auction, museum expo, children's activities and rides in vintage aircraft for an additional price.

"We’ll have food and beverages, and all that sort of thing. We’ll have some bouncy things for the kids to do."

The event will be held this Saturday afternoon from 3 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10; children under 12 get in free. Donations can also be made to: Air Fiesta, P.O. Box 8190, Brownsville, tx 78526 or visit: or Air Fiesta's facebook page.
