Final permit for West Rail Project approved.

Friday, May 28, 2010 - 8:41am

The last permit needed for the West Rail Bridge Project in Cameron county has been approved by the United States Coast Guard. With the permit in place, the county can now move forward with the construction phase of the project, which will move the rail system from downtown Brownsville to the west side of the city limits. That move would eliminate train crossings inside the city and relieve traffic backups in sections for drivers.  Construction is to begin in two years from the date of approval and the city will begin the bidding process in June and start construction in August.
