Couple not Valley Natives

The couple was busted inside their Santa Rosa home with more than 800 lbs of Marijuana but 39-year-old, Aubrey Wilson, wanted to get away before getting caught.

Cameron County Sheriff Deputies and Investigators were called out to a home on Tampa Avenue in Santa Rosa yesterday afternoon after a neighbor called the department concerned there may be something suspicious going on at the home. When authorities got there, they spoke with 26-year-old, Nyteshia Diah, about the allegation. She denied it and did not allow investigators to search the inside.

"During the interim that they were talking to the female, they saw an individual climbing out the back window and trying to take off running."

But he didn't get very far. Wilson was caught moments later and with a Marijuana joint in his possession. The K9 unit was called out and as the dog sniffed the outside, he alerted investigators to a bedroom in the very back. With a search warrant in hand, authorities searched the home and found this, several bundles of Marijuana totaling 885 lbs and about $40,000 in cash.

"Those dogs played a great role in law enforcement and some are better than others but we do have two outstanding and we certainly, certainly commend them on that."

The couple wasn't from the Valley. Sheriff Omar Lucio says the woman is an alleged nurse from Houston and Wilson came from Oklahoma. We don't know Wilson’s occupation but we do know he has a criminal history. He’s been arrested in the past for Marijuana possession, firearm possession and assault.

"People move from different places, especially here in the county. The county is quite large. People seem to think that they can go to some of these small communities and perhaps get away with it."

So far in 2011, the sheriff's department has seized over 17,000 lbs of pot worth more than $13 million.

The couple was arrested last night and is now facing federal charges.
