County Commissioners Meet on Jail Overcrowding Issue

At the Dancy building county commissioners gathered in a meeting with elected officials, officers from the sheriff's department, judges and attorneys to discuss the problem of overcrowding in local jails.

District Attorney Armando Villialobos said he would like to speed up the process of cases by using direct filing which is paperless, saving time and money. Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos says the issues raised at the meeting was informative, but that the overcrowding issue is the binary reason for out budget woes in not accurate. Commissioners say they will consider what was said at the meeting and continue to find a solution to the $4 million dollar shortfall in the budget.
