City of Brownsville awarded Tree City U.S.A.

The Arbor Day Foundation has named the City of Brownsville as a Tree City U.S.A. for the 11th consecutive year and Brownsville is the only city in the lower Rio Grande Valley to receive the designation since 1998. The city had to meet four standards to be eligible for the award which included having  a tree board, tree car ordinance, forestry program and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. The city is also recognized as the most heavily forested city in South Texas.
