Friday, April 2, 2010 - 9:56am

In Brownsville, the 19th Annual Citizens Police Academy kicked off with registration and the first of ten sessions being held by the police department.

The police department offers  the ten week course, free, to citizens 18 years of age and older and who do not have a criminal history. Those who are enrolled will meet every Thursday to learn about police procedures, criminal prosecution, self defense and use of firearms. Police say this is one more way of interacting with the community and teaching them about police practices.

All citizens who complete the course will receive a certificate and anyone who would like more information on the course contact the Southmost Community Network Center at 956.548.7044.
