Injured Rivera Player Receives Help from the Gridiron Foundation
BROWNSVILLE - Fernando Enriquez used to be a star high school athlete, but that was before a life altering incident 5 years ago.
Fernando was a Brownsville Rivera High School Senior cornerback football player who sustained a severe spinal cord injury during scrimmage against Edinburg North.
The Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Foundation steps in to lend a hand. The organization raises around $100,000 a year to assist paralyzed high school football players. Eddie Canales founded the organization after his son sustained a spinal cord injury.
Since then, the group has grown to around 19 members in Texas alone. Fernando says he'll always be thankful for the help he's received from Gridiron Heroes but uses his story as a cautionary tale.
