As the world tried to make sense of the 9/11 attacks, which resulted in the collapse of the Twin Towers in NYC and the Pentagon in Washington DC, the valley faced an unexpected tragedy four days later. On September 15, 2001 the Queen Isabella Causeway connecting Port Isabel and South Padre Island collapsed with eight casualties and 3 survivors. But during a month of great national distress, the event at the island slowly faded away into the backdrop of tragedy.
Ten years later, Veronique Medrano, a UTPA student and Online/Multimedia Co-Editor at The Pan American, brings forth her new documentary, which uncovers first-hand accounts of government officials, and citizens of the Rio Grande Valley who were affected by the collapse. Hope to see you at the event.
