The natural world of the Rio Grande Valley is home to numerous plants that have been used for medicinal properties for many years. While the use of natural herbs as medicine isn't as popular as it once was, this lost art is being revived by local author Dr. Antonio Zavaleta.

Dr. Zavaleta, Vice President for External Affairs at UTB-TSC, is author of several books and papers on the subject of curandrismo and natural herb healing. His previous book, "Curandero Conversations" was a best seller.

On April 15 at 2:00 p.m., Dr. Zavaleta will launch his newest title, "Medicinal Plants of the Borderlands." He'll discuss the history of herbal medicine along the border, its place in local society and how this practice is being revived. Afterwards, he will sign copies of his book, which will be on sale at La Tienda Gift Shop. Members receive 10% off this title and it is not part of the on-going Spring Sale.

A reception will follow.
