Texas State Technical College Get Directions

The Rio Grande Valley region is in short supply of foster homes experienced in working with the more challenging children, according to Victoria Porter, regional director for Lutheran Social Services(LSS)in Harlingen and McAllen. “Our greatest need is for foster parents who are willing to care for children in their teens, sibling groups, and children with intense behaviors,” she said. If new foster families within the area are not identified and trained soon, these special children will have to be placed outside the region, which means further disruption during an already traumatic time for the kids.

LSS is holding a bi-lingual training conference for current and prospective
foster parents at the Texas State Technical College (1902 Loop 499N) in
Harlingen at 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on August 21, 2010.
