IDEA Public Schools to host Personal Project Fair April 8
Fair part of International Baccalaureate Program

DONNA,TX (April 6, 2010) -- IDEA Public Schools will hold its annual Personal Project Fair from 2 - 5 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at IDEA College Preparatory Donna.
The fair is part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs and will take place inside the gymnasium of IDEA College Preparatory Donna, located at 401 S. First St., Donna, Texas.

The fair features the work of 10th grade students who begin their research in September on a topic of their interest.

Project topics range from cake decorating, motor building, accordion playing, fashion design or painting.

“This project helps students in three different ways,” said Abigail M. Garland, 11th Grade History Teacher at IDEA Donna. “First, it helps them develop an interest in a subject which might not be covered in the classroom. Second, it teaches them diligence and project management because they start a project and see it through completion several months later. And, third, the project develops their problem-solving skills and their long-term planning abilities.”

Students are assigned a Personal Project Coordinator who aid them in the process.

The coordinators are IDEA employees and range from principal to groundskeepers, depending on the project chosen by the student. Students then present their final projects with a description of the process to obtain their results.
