April 22 marks the beginning of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. It is a time to focus on victims of crime and celebrate our nation’s progress in serving them. The theme for 2012 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is “Extending the Vision: Reaching Every Victim.”

The 7th Annual Crime Victims’ Resource Expo will take place at H.E.B. in Brownsville, 2550 Southmost Rd., in the parking lot and events are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

This free event is open to the public.

Armando R. Villalobos, County and District Attorney for Cameron County, will welcome everyone to the expo and thank all the special guests attending and supporting National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Other guests include Cameron County Judge Carlos H. Cascos, CPA, who will present Villalobos a County Proclamation for recognizing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

A special service will be held dedicated to victims of crime and special decorated wreaths will be presented and blessed in their honor as a result of violent crime in Cameron County. The wreaths were custom decorated by family members capturing memories of their loved ones.

These wreaths will be displayed in the lobby of the Cameron County Judicial Courthouse for the month of April.
