HARLINGEN — Manolo Mauriz and his wife have been shopping at halloween stores for the last 15 years. It's something they do in preparation for their annual Halloween party.
"We just try to make it cool and spooky and we're always shopping for new props that come out like this exorcist one here, it's kinda creepy," said Mauriz.
A consumer survey says more than half of us will decorate our home or yard this year and 45% of us will join in on the costume fun.
"Families love to do it together, like go with a theme like toy story, or super heroes or different things like that," said Crystal Martinez from Spirit Halloween.
Nationally within the store, Where's Waldo was the top selling costume this year, but locally the trend seemed to be Marvel super heroes.
"Avengers were big, Spiderman was big, Captain America, Iron Man, all of those. They went within hours of being on the shelf." said Martinez.
After two months of sales, the Halloween store still contains a variety of costumes, but a small quantity of each (mainly larger sizes).
"This kids area was pretty full, now we're down to just a couple of these frames. We had about 12 of these to begin with," said Martinez.
Last week was the busiest for sales, but today there's plenty of last minute shoppers. Some just looking for that final touch to complete their look.
"There's always that desire to find something new, something different from other years," said Mauriz.
If you missed out, starting tomorrow, anywhere you go there's pretty much slashed merchandise you can stock up on for next year.
