"We saw this helicopter going so fast, heading that way in a truck and when I was about to open the door I heard like a shot," said Juan Baza.

He lives just down the road from where DPS officers opened fire during a high speed chase yesterday north of La Joya. It happened west of Jara Chinas Road on FM 2221.

"Then to a limit I saw the helicopter stop to a point over there to the post you can actually see, it was going around," said Baza.

Baza got a close look at the aftermath.

"We saw a truck that had no tires. I don't know if something had been going on over there or if they shot the tires off."

Border Patrol was called out to assist in the investigation. There were a total of 10 people inside the vehicle, 7 of which were undocumented immigrants from Guatamala. Another two were shot on site.

Traces of blood from where the shooting occurred can still be found along the side of the road.

"Those subjects have not been identified nor has their nationality been identified," said Border Patrol agent, Enrique Mendiola.

Another whom fled on foot was captured shortly after and turned over to DPS and Texas Rangers.
Baza has lived in the area for 15 years and has never witnessed anything like it.

"It's the first time," said Baza shaking his head.

We'll continue to follow this story and bring you any updates as they become available. Reporting north of La Joya, Claudia Mickle.
