Taking no chances with Alex, Cameron County’s Emergency team is setting up and preparing for the worst, as few models show the tropical storm headed close to, or actually hitting the Rio Grande Valley.
A hurricane watch became effective this morning for a large part of the Gulf Coast in South Texas and Northern México as Tropical Storm, Alex, gained strength and appeared to become a category three hurricane before it makes landfall sometime between late Wednesday and early Thursday.
Cameron County Judge, Carlos Cascos, says if that model is in fact the one that happens to come up the mouth of the river, it will cause many headaches and many heartaches for a large portion of residents in Brownsville because he says, those levees are more than likely not going to sustain much water.
The Emergency Management team will begin 24-hour operations starting tomorrow morning at 8. Judge Cascos doesn't urge folks to begin hurricane purchases just yet. He wants you to be up to date with the latest information and possible changes first.
