Recent reports of gunfire in Matamoros have suddenly changed Brownville Mayor's feelings about people crossing into Mexico these days.
Mayor Pat Ahumada was once adamant about the safety of residents in Matamoros, even after Mexican media reported several attacks involving drug cartels several months ago. However, last night's alleged attack to Matamoros' Police Department changed his mind.
The attack the Mayor refers to allegedly occurred last night outside police headquarters. Ahumada says the attack began around 5:30 and did not end until 9 last night. As many as 10 people, including police officers, may have been killed in the shootout.
The latest attack on Mexican law enforcement took place this past weekend in Valle Hermoso, a city located less than 30 minutes away from Matamoros.
