Violence across the border has gotten so much attention, Washington is now wanting to prevent any possible spillover into the U.S. Federal officials are reporting President, Barack Obama, will deploy 1,200 troops to the U.S/México Border and request an additional $500 million in funding for border protection.
Where the 1,200 troops will be placed remains unknown at this time, but Cameron County Judge, Carlos Cascos, says those troops will only bring more protection to the region.
But Sheriff, Omar Lucio, opposes the President's request, telling our cameras the Valley doesn't need national guard troops, what the area needs is more local law enforcement personnel.
Some folks we spoke to who visit México on a regular basis say there's nothing wrong with more protection.
There is no word on where these troops will be going or when they will be deployed. Federal officials say those details are still being worked on.
